Four-star guard and Syracuse commit Jalen Carey of Immaculate Conception led the way for his team at the PrimeTime Shootout that was held in East Orange, NJ this past weekend as he went for 22 points with a couple of threes and earned the win against Mater Dei.

“I felt like nobody was able to stop me on the court today,” said Carey. “I was just getting to the basket and finding others and making plays for others and I felt like that’s how we got out to a good start.”

“If we play like that, I feel like it’s tough to play with us for any team in the state and we can play with anybody.”

As a team, Carey mentioned that defense is something that everyone is working on especially if they want to go far come playoff time.

“One thing we’re definitely focusing on is defense.” Said Carey. “This is my senior year so we just gotta live for the moment and not be able to take possessions off and just working hard and keep practicing. When we work hard and practice, that’s gonna translate into the game.”

Before the 6-foot-3 guard hits campus, Carey explained that he is working to become a better point guard since that will be his role on Syracuse’s team.

“You know I’ve been playing more of the point guard position since that’s what I’ll be playing at Syracuse so just being in that position more and getting better on and off the ball.”

“Just getting other players better and still being able to do the things I like to do best and just know when I go out there I know I have to play with guys that are just as good as me and so just being able to get mine within the offense.”

Although Carey is excited to head to Syracuse, right now Carey is focused on his senior season.
